I Send You this Cadmium Yellow
Marigold garland, marigold dyed hand woven silk shawl, drawing on Nepali paper

This installation is a deeply personal tribute to the late John Berger, whose work continues to inspire and shape my artistic journey. Drawing from his profound reflections on art, culture, and the human experience, this piece embodies my ongoing dialogue with his ideas. The installation was created during my artist residency in Kathmandu. It features marigold flower garlands, rich in color and symbolism, alongside handwoven silk dyed with marigold dye. The vibrant cadmium yellow of the silk—radiant and warm—echoes the natural world, while the intricate marigold garlands bring life and movement to the space.

The title, 'I Send You This Cadmium Yellow', is a nod to the correspondence between John Berger and John Christie, compiled into a book titled 'I Send You This Cadmium Red'. By replacing the phrase "red" into "yellow," I pay homage to the deep resonance of color and its emotional power, while also marking my own evolution in response to Berger’s work. In this installation, I aim to create a space where the natural beauty of the materials and the memory of Berger's thoughts converge, fostering a quiet, yet profound exchange between the past and the present. This work is my heartfelt tribute to a thinker who continues to illuminate the way I perceive and create in the world.
